Should I get Fallout 3?

Ok, first off I am more of an rpg and action/adventure type of gamer. I'm not really into fps games, but im really curious and looking into them. I know Fallout 3 is more of an rpg and fps mix in a way, so i thought that would be a good way to get me into these sorts of games. but the problem is that im 17 and my ps3 is in the living room so my parents will be walking by often. and i've heard its really gory and violent (which i don't mind personally) but i don't think my parents will be too happy about that. I'm a girl by the way so i think my parents will disapprove of me playing it. so what should I do and how do i convince them? and if you could give me some more insight as to what the game is like that would be great. thanks.
