It wont recognize anything in my serial port?

ok i recently got an old pda. its a palm m105 if u want specifics. i downloaded the desktop program and everything but it wont sync with the palm. i plugged it in to both serial ports and it doesnt even say theres anything plugged in there. how can i fix this?
