When did catholicism arrive in mexico?

I think in 1518 when Hernan Cortez arrived at Mexico. After he conquered the Aztec in 1520 or 21 He force the Remaining Natives to abandon their believes and convert to Catholicism. The Spanish treatment to the natives was horrible because most refuse to convert.
